Is Afrikaans your native language or do you have a strong command of it? In that case, your journey to learning Dutch will differ from that of most other non-native speakers who learn the Dutch language. You can probably understand it with little effort, but speaking it fluently is another challenge entirely.
Afrikaans and Dutch are very similar, yet in some respects they are worlds apart. Although the words are sometimes exactly the same, they are pronounced differently. The grammar has a lot in common too, but there are notable differences.
